My journey took me to the charming town of Hay-on-Wye in Powys, renowned for its literary festival and picturesque scenery. As a gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park, it’s a very popular destination for motorhomers. I chose to stay at the Black Mountains Caravan and Motorhome Park, a delightful site managed by the Davies family. Located at Bushfield Farm, Bronyd, Clyro HR3 5RX, the park offers a perfect base for exploring the region.
The Perfect Campsite
The Black Mountains site, run by the ever-helpful James Davies, provides everything a motorhome traveller could need. The site's slightly inclined terrain features well-levelled pitches, essential for my almost 8-meter-long motorhome. Opting for the largest pitch, I found ample space and comfort.
James's hospitality stood out to me. Not only is he an excellent host, but his site is also dog-friendly, a significant plus for pet owners. I enjoyed the added benefit of a nearby field where my dog could exercise, and as a bonus, I could also gather fresh mushrooms in the morning!
The Towacar Advantage
One of the key advantages I found was the convenience of having my Towacar. With the site being two miles from Hay-on-Wye, public transport options are limited. Unhitching my car allowed me to easily drive into town for supplies and explore local attractions without the constraints of bus schedules (which are not great!).

Hay-on-Wye offers a wealth of activities and sights. Known for its bookshops, the town also boasts a variety of local produce, meats, and artisanal goods. I found everything I needed in this vibrant little town, and being able to drive straight into town with nimble tow car made my stay even more enjoyable.

Despite its peaceful and remote location, the Black Mountains Caravan and Motorhome Park doesn't skimp on amenities. I praised the well-maintained showers, toilets, and dishwashing facilities, which added to the comfort of my stay. The site even includes a separate area for tent campers, catering to diverse camping preferences.

The ability to unhitch and explore with ease transforms your holiday, providing flexibility and convenience, especially in areas with narrow lanes and small streets.
